Carton House is a short drive from Dublin and sits on 1,100 private acres of sweeping parkland, ancient woodlands, lakes, and the meandering River Rye. The estate has a rich history and was once the ancestral home of the Earls of Kildare and the Dukes of Leinster. The Paladian-style mansion was built in 1739, but the hotel was recently renovated to include 151 rooms in its Garden Wing. Carton House boasts two championship eighteen-hole golf courses, tennis courts, a luxurious spa, an indoor swimming pool, and three unique eateries - Kathleen's Kitchen, The Morrison Room, and The Carriage House. Maynooth is the town closest to Carton House. A walking path from Carton brings one to Main Street in the center of Maynooth and takes about thirty minutes. Maynooth is home to Maynooth University, St. Patrick's College, Maynooth Castle, and several small businesses, restaurants, and pubs.
